Toon Van Ishoven / Artoon is a multimedia artist who turned his focus to murals for the simple reason “that it gets too hot in the summer to work in a studio”. He explores a wide range of media, has created designs for theatre productions, crafts audiovisual projections on buildings, and works as a graphic designer, yet he has always remained devoted to painting.

“I find joy in it every single time I paint. In truth, I learned it from my father, who was a diamond cutter and painted in his spare time. He never actually taught me; I simply learned by watching him. He had an incredibly sharp eye. Another reason I love painting outdoors is to make a statement: I feel that a lot of contemporary art has become over-intellectualized. And I never trust an artist who can't draw.”
