After the earlier renowned artwork by TUZQ (Vos and Dotterbloem in Testelt) that won the "Best of Belgium Street Art" award, the Scherpenheuvel-Zichem region is once again a mural richer.
As a follow-up to the already successful trajectory that the city entered into with artist collective Treepack, they completed a new facade in collaboration with Catalan artist Guillem Font. After making their façade available, the residents of Hamerstraat 9 could welcome a new work entirely dedicated to local fauna and flora.
The last week of the summer vacation saw hard painting in the Hamerstraat in Zichem. Even for Catalan artist Guillem Font, it was sweating to completely finish his mural, in collaboration with Treepack, during this hot week. The mural highlights the vegetation and smaller creatures found in the rural areas of this region. Treepack chose Guillem Font for this facade. An extremely versatile artist from Barcelona, Guillem is both a professional street artist and founder of the "Ruta Grafica Mx" art collective. As in other works, he develops his distinctive style from the study of textures and organic forms, especially those of various animal species and plants. His unique style is steeped in the natural world. Through detailed observations and research, Guillem creates an artistic universe composed of landscapes and hybrid creatures. He often uses shades of gray in his work to emphasize the growing alienation between man and nature. This artistic approach acts as an introspective mirror, inviting the viewer to reflect on the impact of human negligence on the color palette of our planet.
This project comes further from the collaboration between Treepack and the municipality of Scherpenheuvel-Zichem. Alderman Inne Pauwels explains, "Our city was previously voted "Street Art City" of Belgium in 2021. The residents of Hamerstraat 9 voluntarily made their facade available to be part of this connecting project. With this artistic project, we hope to once again activate residents, young and old, to be more mindful of the local nature and environment in this way."
