Last month, 2 large facades in Kortenberg were decorated with murals. In this way, the municipality is becoming an attraction for art lovers and is turning into a real open-air museum. Accessible art for a broad target audience is what street art collective Treepack specializes in. At the request of the municipality of Kortenberg, they realized two murals that respond to local fauna and flora. The facade in the Dorpstraat in Meerbeek will leave a lasting impression on all residents and passers-by with this eye-catcher.
After an extensive appeal to all Kortenberg residents, the municipality found no less than 38 facades suitable for a mural. From this wide selection, the Treepack collective chose 2 winners, thus the Kruisstraat in Everberg and the Dorpsstraat in Meerbeek. Thanks to the participatory participation of local residents, the works of art were very well received.
In consultation with the local residents involved, Dutch artist Collin Van der Sluijs was chosen. The colorful birds turn the facade in the Dorpsstraat into a true work of art. His mural is the sequel to the first phase of the project where the Mexican artist Allegria del Prado painted a similar feat in the Kruisstraat in Everberg.
The result of the second phase can therefore now also be admired at the intersection of Dorpstraat and Kleine Vilvoordestraat The city council would like to thank all residents for their enthusiasm and involvement in this wonderful project, which contributes to the creation of a colorful and lively environment in Kortenberg.
