A big mural was unveiled in Kortrijk. With this #MURALS4CHANGE, 11.11.11 kicks off its annual campaign in very special circumstances...
The showpiece
The 11.11.11 campaign launched on 31 October puts changemakers in the spotlight this year. People who make a difference to others in their environment. These are strong individuals who dare to stick their neck out and help improve the lives of others. This year, the organisation is taking 'being in the spotlight' literally by setting up a large street art campaign. The showpiece of these murals can be seen on the Nelson Mandelaplein in Kortrijk.
The work was created by Treepack artist Toon Van Ishoven. He created a unique design that symbolises this campaign: hands and arms of different skin colours carry a gigantic megaphone.
The image is a metaphor for all the people and activists around the world who are committed to raising their voices and speaking out on vital issues. To give the image extra visual power, the artist works with a strong contrasting colour backdrop, which in turn adds depth to the artwork.
Together with the city of Kortrijk, we are currently working on several projects to brighten up the streetscape, such as the cyclist tunnel at the entrance to Kortrijk meadow, and the subway of the viaduct on the HoWest.
