Never before had the Sonian Forest bloomed in such a special way. In the Welriekendedreef in Overijse, a unique carpet of flowers recently flaunts itself. Italian artist Tellas and Puerto Rican 2Bleene brought their painting skills together with artist collective Treepack in an abstract mural. This gave the gray tunnel a vibrant addition of local white to red forest anemones. Passing cyclists and walkers will now be brightly showered daily with the opening of the tunnel.
On the occasion of the work to make the tunnel on Welriekendedreef also accessible to cyclists, the existing tunnel section was additionally revamped with beautiful new street art. The artistic work was carried out by Leuven artist collective Treepack, which involved the two renowned artists Tellas and 2Bleene. Thanks to their efforts, the local environment has been rendered in a striking way and the tunnel can finally be opened in all its glory.
When you think of the Flemish outskirts, you think of the Sonian Forest, the green lung of Brussels, The inspiration for the work is therefore the characteristic plant kingdom of the Sonian Forest bordering the tunnel. The artist duo gave the work a modern and personal vision through expressive lines and a vibrant color palette. This balance created a beautiful composition that reflects the natural beauty of the environment.
"We are very happy to present this beautiful artwork to visitors to this region. Our goal was to honor and celebrate the local environment," the artists said. They hope this mural will inspire people to further explore the natural beauty of this region. Just like the flowers that bloom every spring and summer, people can too. They follow their hearts, use talents and do meaningful work. The fresh canvas of flowers is potentially so too infinite and leaves everyone feeling better about themselves from now on.
