Art as a lever for CSR and ESG: How do murals create social impact?

CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) are now ubiquitous parts of corporate strategies. Yet one question often lingers: how do you really make these values visible?

Art in public spaces can be much more than decoration. It can make stories visible, connect people and make social impact tangible. A good example of this is our project for the European Commission.

How can art make CSR and ESG visible?

Many organizations have nice goals around sustainability and community engagement, but it often gets stuck in reports, promises or internal workshops. They find it difficult to bring them to life. A mural by Treepack does just that.

It makes values visible to everyone: employees, local residents and casual passersby. No promises on paper, but a lasting symbol that connects people to the story of the company or organization.

How does art translate social values into real impact?

For the European Commission, Treepack realized seven murals in Belgian and Luxembourg cities, such as the project in Leuven and Wilrijk. The goal was simple but powerful: to bring European values closer to the citizen.

We organized creative sessions with students, local residents and local associations beforehand. Their ideas and stories formed the basis for the designs.

The results speak for themselves:

  • More than 20,000 youth actively engaged through workshops and co-creation.
  • Reached more than 500,000 people online through campaigns and shared content.
  • A lasting sense of pride within local communities.

These murals show how art brings people together and gives social issues a place in the streetscape.

How does art contribute to the social side of ESG?

Art makes big themes human. It invites conversation, connects generations and strengthens a sense of community.

Murals by Treepack literally give color to the S of ESG: the social dimension. They revolve around collaboration, education, inclusion and pride. Each mural becomes a place where people recognize themselves and their values.

Why do murals work so well for community projects?

A mural by Treepack is more than a work of art. It's a story that sticks. The benefits speak for themselves:

  • Visible impact: artworks are public statements that last for years.
  • Engagement: citizens, schools and organizations work together and feel ownership.
  • Brand Value: companies show not only that they are committed to sustainability and inclusion, but also how.
  • Communication power: one image sometimes says more than a full sustainability report.
  • Greater visibility: murals attract press and media attention.

How can art enhance your social goals?

CSR and ESG are about meaningful change. A mural makes that change visible, tangible and shared with the world.

The project for the European Commission shows how art simultaneously educates, connects and builds brand value. At Treepack, we help organizations literally take their social ambitions to the streets.
