No joke.
In 1945 and the years before, Antwerp was bombed with V1 and V2 bombs. The destruction was so bad that they wiped entire streets off the map.
Without these bombs, the building we took care of would not have been there.
As a tribute to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Antwerp, the city launched a campaign to remind us that we now live in peace thanks to the efforts of many people. Children and young adults find it difficult to grasp the battles of the past, which is why we painted the destruction caused by a V2 bomb in Antwerp on the very spot where it actually happened 75 years ago. This pearl shrouded in smoke was painted by our "veteran"Toon van Ishoven.
The images speak for themselves.
