Street art in Herentals

The municipality of Herentals, in consultation with Treepack, transformed a few locations into artistic displays. We involved local youth and the neighborhood as much as possible in the design process. It resulted in 5 locations that now delight residents and visitors with a colorful overload of street art.

VEST

For the first location in Vest, artist Alain Welter decided to dedicate himself to the history of the region. Because cycling is very popular in Herentals, he illustrated the legendary cyclists (such as: Rik Van Looy, Wout van Aert and Sanne Cant) and also designed some animal characters to give the design a humorous touch.

To bring variety to the design, Alain Welter deliberately chose not to create a continuous design, but to create a constant alternation between portraits, cityscape, botanical elements and typography. In this way you discover different stories, whether you get the opportunity to look at the whole wall or not.

SKATEPARK

The skate park in Herentals was also fortunate enough to be enriched with a playful mural. Street artist Simon Mannaerts, who is fascinated by people and movements, has created a fitting design in colors and lines on the adjacent wall at the skate park.

VILLAGE HALL MORKHOVEN

A unique design now exhibits itself at the Village Hall Morkhoven. The paintable area of approximately 30m² was given a highly experimental and abstract character by artist Larsen Bervoets. Fascinated by the interaction of color and space, combined with perspective, the human point of view and natural light versus shadow play. The wall is flat but acquires a three-dimensional character through the combination of these elements.

2D or not 2D, that's the question....

NORDERWIJK

One of the artists who also collaborated is Sofie Joblin, who herself lives in Herentals. She has brought the fence in Noorderwijk, in the path between the village square and the Oude Dreef, completely to life with magical shapes. A playful look with lively plants and lovely animals that greet passers-by.

PEDESTRIAN TUNNEL

Finally, the pedestrian tunnel at the station in Herentals was also given a facelift by the design of Sam Billen, who specializes in creating conceptual murals for both Treepack and beyond. Each passer-by is magically immersed during his walk through the tunnel. The Herentalselaar is the name of the tree that literally makes the connection between both sides of the pedestrian tunnel. It is a magical tree whose veins visibly radiate energy and vitality. When walking through the tunnel, one finds oneself at the foot of the tree which flows into a pool of water on one side and into fertile soil on the other. Curious animals can be discovered. Because of the light and the golden, warm atmosphere, the artwork brings a fairy tale experience.
